In 1979 I was in a band called Pinpoint. We were making our long-delayed first album. There had been a few abortive starts, a first single "Richmond c/w "Love Substitute" that was produced by Vic Maile, and an awful session with Vic Coppersmith-Heaven that led to the drummer, Hugh Griffiths and I spending a summer learning how to play in time with each other. Of course we had waited too long and had already moved into the danger zone known as "difficult second album syndrome". With hindsight it seems obvious that we should have bashed out a first album with Vic Maile, whose next project was Ace of Spades with Motorhead, and then moved on.
